- The candidate must be a resident of Telangana.
- They should not currently possess a Telangana Ration Card or a Telangana Food Security Card (FSC).
- Additionally, the candidate must belong to a socioeconomically disadvantaged group.
- Newlywed couples are eligible to apply for a ration card.
- Furthermore, citizens holding temporary ration cards or those with expired ration cards are also eligible to apply for a new one.

- Under the BRS administration, Harish Rao announced significant updates to ration card eligibility criteria. The income threshold was increased from ₹60,000 to ₹1.5 lakh for rural areas and from ₹75,000 to ₹2.5 lakh for urban areas.
